On Sunday afternoon, Feb 1, Freedom Park trails A & C were still mostly covered in ice. Not snow, but ice. Some crusty and slippery, and some solid and extremely slick like a bobsled track. Not only unsuitable for riding, but unsafe. It's not even safe to walk on unless you have crampons or YakTrax (and even then it's no sure thing).
So Freedom Park trails remain closed until further notice, and please stay off of other local trails, as we expect most of them to be in the same or very similar conditions. This week's Tues & Weds night rides are cancelled, and Thursday (Freedom) is doubtful. CHECK BACK HERE EACH DAY FOR POSSIBLE UPDATES.
As temps get above freezing during the day to accelerate the melt, then dip below freezing at night, we're concerned about the freeze-thaw effect on the dirt. Please check back here and/or for EVMA e-mails for updates. Some good news: a few short stretches of Freedom trail A that were ice-free were dry and solid. That's promising.
Tuesday Feb 3, Harwoods Mill Night ride: CANCELLED.
Wednesday Feb 4, New Quarter Park Night Ride: CANCELLED.
Thursday Feb 5, Freedom Park Night Ride: check back later, but a very likely to be cancelled.
*ALWAYS CHECK BACK HERE SHORTLY BEFORE EACH RIDE TO CONFIRM THE STATUS.
Night Ride Details:
All rides begin at 6:00 PM, but arrive early enough to get geared up, signed, & ready to roll by 6:00.
2 lights required: usually one for your helmet & one on your bars.
These are group rides, so we'll decide as a group what route to take and (mostly) stick together with some stops to regroup.
We must be off the trails by 7:45 and out of the gates by 8:00 PM.
